AMC’s Highland Center
Tackling climate change at AMC’s Highland Center

Appalachian Mountain Club is dedicated to the protection, enjoyment, and understanding of the outdoors. Each of these interactions with nature is evolving alongside the changing climate around us—predicted and confirmed by science (big and small) within our lifetimes. Approaches informed by science have been at the root of addressing challenges that once may have seemed too big to solve, such as air quality improvements achieved under the Clean Air Act. AMC follows the best science wherever it leads and conducts research across the landscapes in order to preserve the outdoor experiences that have shaped AMC since 1876.
Built on the site of the historic Crawford House hotel and nestled in New Hampshire’s Crawford Notch, the Highland Center is AMC's premier White Mountain lodge and an ideal basecamp with access to the White Mountain National Forest.
Building on our decades long relationship with AMC, the trustees of Highland Partners have committed to fund the first phase of AMC's plan to achieve net zero emissions at the Highland Center. Phase One involves the installation of a 100 kW solar array along with energy modelling and design services.
